About the Song
Every railroad station is a place of arrivals and departures, but it is also a place of stories.
“The Nasonville Station” turns our attention from the locomotives and railroad itself to the people who gather beside the tracks. There is a mother with her children waiting to see the train, a gentleman in his suit and tie watching for its arrival, a husband and wife painting the Queen of Peace, and a father and son counting locomotives together.
Each is experiencing the railroad in a different way, and each is creating a memory.
The song also allows the Nasonville Valley Railroad to grow in our imagination. From Nasonville, the train travels through the familiar towns of Harrisville, Mapleville, Pascoag, North Smithfield, Woonsocket, and Bellingham—as though the Nasonville Valley were one of the old railroads that once connected the small towns and communities of New England.
At the center of it all is the station: a place where journeys begin, people meet, and there is always room for one more friend.
The Nasonville Station
Verse 1
Sitting in the station, waiting for my train,
Watching all the people as they come again.
Every face’s got a story, every smile a name,
Every heart’s a traveler, though we’re not the same.
Chorus
This is the Nasonville Valley Railroad,
Where every journey starts with hope.
Some are traveling just down the line,
Some are chasing dreams beyond the pines.
Hear the whistle calling, hear the wheels roll on,
Every mile’s another memory born.
This is the Nasonville Valley Railroad,
Where dreams come alive for everyone.
Verse 2
There’s a loving mother with her children gathered near,
One asleep within her arms, the others full of cheer.
Little eyes look down the tracks, waiting patiently,
Wondering when the old steam train will come for them to see.
Chorus
Verse 3
Now I see a gentleman dressed in suit and tie,
Leaning by the station with a paper held up high.
Every now and then he looks to where the rails disappear,
Listening for the distant whistle drawing ever near.
Chorus
Verse 4
Across the tracks a husband and his faithful wife
Paint the Queen of Peace with loving hands and life.
Soon their work will proudly hang where railroad friends all meet,
Adding one more memory to this place so warm and sweet.
Chorus
Verse 5
Down along the right-of-way a father and his son
Count the passing locomotives one by one by one.
Every puff of smoke and steam, every whistle’s cry,
Writes another treasured page that years can’t pass them by.
Bridge
Every station tells a story.
Every whistle sings a song.
Every rail that winds the valley
Carries all our hearts along.
Verse 6
From the Nasonville Station Harrisville’s the first,
Mapleville comes after, where the countryside unfolds.
Then on into Pascoag as the countryside rolls by,
Fields and forests, streams and bridges underneath the sky.
Verse 7
North to North Smithfield, onward to Woonsocket,
Then to Bellingham the old train keeps on rolling.
Every stop’s another chapter, every town a friend,
On the Nasonville Valley line the journey never ends.
Final Chorus
This is the Nasonville Valley Railroad,
Where every journey starts with hope.
Some are traveling just down the line,
Some are chasing dreams beyond the pines.
Hear the whistle calling, hear the wheels roll on,
Making memories that will carry on.
This is the Nasonville Valley Railroad,
Where dreams come alive for everyone.
Outro
So if you’re ever passing by, come and ride awhile.
You’ll find more than trains here—you’ll find welcoming smiles.
At the Nasonville Valley Railroad,
There’s always room for one more friend.
